Child Protection

The Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 and the Child Protection (Working with Children) Regulation 2013 legislation was developed to better protect our children. Ku-ring-gai Little Athletics as an organisation want to help keep children and young people safe in the interest of promoting child safety within the sport of Athletics.

In conjunction with LANSW and to meet the Act, KLAC ensures that for all Committee members, Age Managers and Coaches over the age of 18 years old have as a prerequisite a current and valid WWCC (Working with Children Check). For each affected individual registration, the club checks and verifies the registration on the NSW Government Office of Children’s Guardian website. Attached is the checklist KLAC applies for your reference

Though for clarity, parents are exempt under the Working with Children Act when spectating or directly assisting with their child’s age group when their child is present. This also applies when a parent volunteer at an association carnival.

Additionally, at LANSW events including Zone and Region Championships, LANSW requires all officials (irrespective if they have a child competing) to have a WWCC. So for the upcoming Zone Championship, all Officials from KLAC (and will be applicable for all other centres) have provided LANSW with the Officials WWCC details.
